WHAT IS THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE?

The demands of modern life lead most of us to accumulate patterns of unnecessary tension and strain in ourselves. Over time, these patterns of compression and overdoing become habitual: we notice them mainly when they begin causing pain.

The Alexander Technique is an educational approach which increases our awareness of the way we function. By addressing our habits at a psychophysical (mind/body) level, it restores greater ease of movement, and allows for improved coordination and balance. Heightened awareness of the way we respond to life increases our sense of freedom, and can enable us to make more informed choices which enhance our well-being on all levels.

Because the Alexander Technique involves principles, rather than a set of exercises, it can be applied to any number of activities. By bringing our awareness to bear on how we do things, we can increase our overall ease and efficiency, which frees us up to reach our full potential and to achieve our goals.

"Together with improved physical and mental health, I have found that the Alexander Technique has brought about a general heightening of consciousness on all levels."

~Aldous Huxley
