The demands of modern life lead most of us to accumulate patterns of unnecessary tension and strain. Over time, these patterns of compression and overdoing become habitual: we notice them mainly when they begin causing pain, or interfere with things we want or need to do.
The Alexander Technique is an educational approach that aims to make us more aware of how we move through the day. It offers tools to transform habits that we discover to be unhelpful. By addressing these habits at a psycho-physical (mind/body) level, it restores greater ease of movement, and allows for improved coordination and balance.
Because the Alexander Technique involves principles, rather than a set of exercises, it can be applied to any number of activities. By bringing our awareness to bear on how we do things, we can increase our overall ease and efficiency, which frees us up to reach our full potential and to achieve our goals.
"Together with improved physical and mental health, I have found that the Alexander Technique has brought about a general heightening of consciousness on all levels."
